Haenchen is seasoned Wagnerian who knows to handle the Muziektheater's problematic acoustic. He has also clearly put the Residentie Orchestra through their Wagnerian paces, for they surpassed all local expectations. The music emerged with a natural sense of momentum, and the great orchestral pages were thrilling.
