Relaxing and Enjoyable
I have to admit that I picked up this cd in a second hand shop on a whim. The price was a given away and I have always liked Haenchen's work. These are all works for chamber orchestra and the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Chamber Orchestra under Haenchen provide some very enjoyable performances. The nicely capture the quieter pastorale type music that marks all of these pieces as well as fully partaking of some of the more spirited sections. The Weber is given one of the most clear headed performances of this work that I ever heard. Far too many performances seem to be unsure of this work but Haenchen and his players have it nailed down. Too bad they did not also record the second symphony. In all the works they come across as enjoying themselves and they nicely convey that to the listener.
