Hartmut Haenchen the conductor takes advantage of them in this production of "Die Walküre". He is a dynamic stage figure, trembling with determination and the Netherlands Philharmonic responds to him with a vigorous performance.

Contained by a false ceiling over the stage, the orchestral sound is full and clear, and solos stand out with unusual prominence, especially the excellently played clarinet and English horn solos.
