The Haenchen is not only as good or better than the Segerstam, it is also more intelligently and conveniently coupled with a wonderful performance of the only other quartet Mahler arranged for string orchestra, Schubert's Death and the Maiden. Sonics are excellent, and the superb string band plays with dead-center tuning. Their spit-and-polish virtuosity in the last few moments of the Schubert is astounding!
